THREE hundred-sixty new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday as infections stayed below 500 for the fourth straight day while deaths also dipped to 61.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,836,803 while the death toll climbed to 50,341 for a case fatality rate of 1.77.
The positivity rate in the country stood at 1.1 percent out of the 35,811 tests conducted last December 11.
Active cases also dipped slightly to 11,083 from 11,255 last Sunday, with 4,292 mild cases, 3,662 moderate cases, 1,948 severe cases, 782 asymptomatic cases, and 399 critical cases. Active cases account for 0.4 percent of COVID cases in the country.
The DOH also reported 519 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,775,379.
This means that 97.8 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora reported that active cases in the city have dropped to as low as six yesterday, the lowest since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
Zamora earlier said they aim to have zero active cases before the year is over. The city has also recorded 15,385 recoveries and 334 deaths but no new active cases and deaths have been reported.
Zamora reminded the public to avoid being complacent and follow minimum health protocols and for the unvaccinated to be inoculated. — With Christian Oineza
