New cases back to over 200

FROM 168 last Tuesday, new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases jumped to 261 yesterday while deaths also climbed to 122, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of infections in the country rose to 2,837,784 while the death toll climbed to 50,916 for a case fatality rate of 1.79.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 0.9 percent out of the 29,577 tests conducted last December 20.

Active cases dipped slightly to 9,238 from 9,384 last Tuesday, with 3,400 moderate cases, 3,153 mild cases, 1,801 severe cases, 507 asymptomatic cases, and 377 critical cases.

Active cases account for 0.3 percent of COVID cases in the country.

The DOH also reported 395 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,777,630.

This means that 97.9 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
