A DAY after new infections dipped below 1K, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases climbed back up to 1,067 yesterday, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total cases in the country climbed to 3,663,059 while no new death was reported, leaving the death toll at 56,451 for a case fatality rate of 1.54 percent.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 4.3 percent among the 18,766 tested samples on February 27.
Active cases slightly dipped to 51,592 from 52,179 last Monday, with 46,000 mild cases and more than 2,700 moderate cases.
The health department also reported 1,652 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,555,016.
The DOH also announced that it will no longer issue daily case bulletins by next week. Instead, weekly bulletins will be issued starting March 7.
“Starting March 7, we shall have once a week case bulletin,” said DOH spokesperson Ma. Rosario Vergeire.
She explained the shift in the reporting system is part of the government’s efforts to teach people not to rely on daily COVID-19 numbers and start living with the virus.
“We want to de-emphasize looking at the daily numbers from the people’s mindset,” she said. “We should now treat it like it’s part of our lives. We live with the virus.”
Vergeire, however, said the public will be adequately informed in case of spikes in cases.
“In the event that we see a spike in our numbers, we will be providing timely information to the public,” she said.
