New cases back below 1K since Dec

NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases dipped to 951 yesterday, the first time in two months that new infections dropped below the 1,000-mark, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of cases in the country rose to 3,661,997 while the death toll climbed to 56,451 counting 50 more deaths reported yesterday, for a case fatality rate of 1.54 percent.

The last time the country saw new cases below 1K was on December 29, 2021, when 889 cases were reported.

The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 5 percent among the 22,407 tested samples on February 26.

Active cases also dipped slightly to 52,179 from 52,961 last Sunday, with over 47,000 mild cases and more than 2,700 moderate cases.

The health department also reported 1,717 additional recoveries, bringing the number of survivors to 3,553,367. The DOH said the recovery rate stood at 97 percent.
