THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set on December 9 the holding of special elections in the third legislative district of Negros Oriental for the position of congressman following the expulsion of Rep. Arnolfo Teves.
In a statement, the Comelec said: “The Comelec en banc today approved the Calendar of Activities and Periods of Certain Prohibited Acts in connection with the December 9, 2023 Special Election in the 3rd Legislative District, Province of Negros Oriental.”
Under Comelec Resolution No. 10945, the period for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for the special elections shall be from November 6 to 8.
The campaign period will be from November 9 to December 7.
The Commission said the election period will begin on November 9 and will run until December 24.
Voting hours on December 9 will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will immediately be followed by the counting and canvassing of votes and proclamation of winning candidates.
