FIVE local governments in the National Capital Region (NCR) saw lower cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during the period September 2 until 8, the independent OCTA Research said yesterday.
In its latest monitoring report, OCTA said the local government units (LGUs) that had negative one-week growth rates were Navotas (-31%), Malabon (-11%), Las Piñas (-8%), Pateros (-7%), and Pasay (-4%).
“Trends may change anytime, so it is important that LGUs and their residents sustain their efforts to bring the cases down,” said OCTA.
The group likewise said five areas have also seen a drop in their reproduction rates.
OCTA said the reproduction rates in Navotas (1.04), Las Piñas (1.11), Malabon (1.13), Pasay (1.16), and Valenzuela (1.19) are now nearer to the ideal below 1 R naught as set by the World Health Organization.
“The reproduction number in Navotas was at moderate level and moving close to 1. A reproduction number less than 1 means the trend shifts downward. Other LGUs had reproduction numbers close to 1.1,” said OCTA.
For the whole region, Metro Manila also saw a continued decrease in the growth rate as well as in reproduction rate.
Data shows that NCR had an average of 5,129 new COVID-19 cases per day from September 2 to 8, which is nine (9) percent higher than the daily average from August 26 to September 1 of 4,686 cases.
Last week, the case growth rate in Metro Manila was at 12 percent.
Similarly, the OCTA noted that the reproduction rate in Metro Manila is now at 1.30, which is lower than the 1.39 R naught recorded a week earlier.
Metro Manila was placed under enhanced community quarantine from August 6 until 20. It shifted to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) beginning August 21 until now.
