Nearly P200M in aid provided to Mayon evacuees

MORE than P199.69 million worth of food and non-food relief items have been provided to communities affected by the Mayon unrest since the alert level was raised to three last June.

This was on top of the emergency cash assistance, livelihood aid and other financial assistance that have been provided to the affected communities.

Data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development- Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DSWD-DROMIC) as of September 9 showed there are still 5,020 families (17,604 persons) staying in 25 evacuation centers in the Bicol region while 418 families (1,452 persons) are temporarily staying with their relatives or friends.

A total of 9,876 families (38,396 persons) from 26 barangays in Albay have been affected by the Mayon unrest.

The National government, through the DSWD, continues to coordinate with the provincial government of Albay to determine the assistance it could still provide to the affected communities.

Last Friday, the DSWD distributed family food packs and Japanese Rice at the Sojoton Evacuation Center and San Andres Evacuation Center, and last Thursday at the Albay Provincial Campsite and Evacuation Center and at the San Jose Elementary School Evacuation Center.

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Ligao City has also distributed assorted vegetables to the families staying at the Albay Provincial Campsite and Evacuation Center while the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation distributed hygiene kits and food packs at the San Jose Elementary School evacuation center.
