Nearly 90K new voters apply as registration resumes

IN only the first day of the voter registration period for the May 2025 national and local polls, close to 90,000 individuals have filed their applications with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Based on data released by the poll body, there were 88,999 individuals who applied on the first day of the voter registration period last Monday.

Calabarzon had the highest number of registrants with 14,754; followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 10,623; and Central Luzon with 10,143.

Also having high number of applicants are Central Visayas with 7,890; and Ilocos Region with 6,708.

On the other hand, seeing the lowest number of applicants are the Cordillera Administrative Region with 1,172; Mimaropa with 1,508; and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with 1,784.

The Comelec said there were also 412 applicants for voter registration at the poll body’s main office in Intramuros, Manila, where a Register Anywhere Program (RAP) booth has been set-up.

The Comelec is projecting about three million will apply to become registered voters during the seven-month voter registration period.

The voter registration period for the 2025 polls is set to run until September 30, 2024.
