Nearly 79K Pinoys repatriated since February

MORE than 10,000 overseas Filipinos were repatriated the past week, bringing the number of repatriates to 78,809 since February when the government started the program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was able to facilitate the return of 10,369 more overseas Filipinos from various regions around the world.

It added that of the 78,809 repatriates since February, 37,166 or 47.16 percent are sea-based workers while 41, 643 or 52.84 percent are land-based workers.

“The most recent repatriates came from the Netherlands, France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United States and Vietnam,” the DFA said.

The DFA said 6,681 came from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait along with 1,628 stranded Filipinos from Hong Kong, Myanmar, Maldives, South Korea and Sri Lanka.

A total of 1,204 sea-based workers also arrived from Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and Norway.

Five chartered flights were mounted the past week by the DFA using its assistance-to-nationals fund that brought home 1,323 Filipinos from Japan, Pakistan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
