Nearly 50K quake victims still displaced

MORE than 14,000 families or close to 50,000 persons who were affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake that rocked Luzon last month are still staying either in evacuation centers or with relatives, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) revealed yesterday.

The DSWD said data from its Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) showed that 14,208 families or 49,688 persons were displaced in Regions I and CAR, which include 301 families or 981 persons still staying in evacuation centers and 13,907 families or 48,707 persons who are temporarily staying with relatives or friends.

Of those who were displaced, 14,072 families (49,086 persons) are in CAR and 136 families (602 persons) are in the Ilocos region.

More than P159.064 million worth of aid had been provided to those affected by the July 27 earthquake.

Of the said amount, P105.79 million came from the DSWD; P27 million from local government units (LGUs); P17.133 million from non-government Organizations (NGOs), and P9 million from private partners.
