Nearly 50K persons affected by ‘Dodong’

CLOSE to 50,000 individuals have been affected by the tropical storm “Dodong,” many of them still displaced, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said yesterday.

The NDRRMC said 13,929 families (47,220 individuals) from 135 barangays in the Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas regions were affected by Dodong.

Initially displaced were 2,512 families (7,876 individuals) were displaced. The number was down to 1,865 families (5,712 individuals) as of yesterday.

Of the still-displaced population, 452 families (1,788 individuals) are housed in 37 evacuation centers while 1,413 families (3,924 individuals) are staying with relatives or friends.

The fatality count remained at one — a victim of a rain-induced landslide in Antipolo City in Rizal.

NDRRMC spokesman Edgar Posadas, in a briefing, said “no major untoward incident” was monitored except for 50 flooding incidents and isolated from Dodong.

Posadas also said the NDRRMC is still on blue alert “so we can focus on our (relief) efforts.”

Dodong exited last Saturday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring a low pressure area in Mindanao. The LPA, which entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday afternoon, is forecast to intensify into a tropical depression.

As of yesterday morning, the LPA was some 890 km east of east of northeastern Mindanao, PAGASA said.
