THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported three more deaths due to the effects of three weather systems since the start of the year, bringing the death toll to 38.
Two of the additional deaths due to low pressure areas, northeast monsoon and shear line were recorded in the Bicol region while the third was in the Mimaropa region, the NDRRMC said.
The 35 earlier reported deaths were from six regions — in Zamboanga Peninsula with 12, Northern Mindanao eight, Eastern Mindanao seven, Bicol six, and Davao and Soccsksargen, one each.
Nineteen of the total 38 deaths have been validated — nine in Zamboanga Peninsula, seven in Eastern Visayas, two in Northern Mindanao, and one in Davao.
Twelve were injured and five remain missing. Of the missing, two are in Davao and one each in Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The NDRRMC said 475,981 families or 1,941,146 individuals were affected by the calamity.
They are from 2,516 barangays in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga and BARMM.
Of the figure, 138,605 families or 569,450 individuals have been displaced, though the number was down to 30,046 families or 116,636 individuals as of yesterday.
The NDRRMC said P101.15 million worth of assistance has been provided to those affected in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Caraga.
The NDRRMC said the cost of damage to agriculture was pegged at P751.96 million in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen and Caraga.
This is on top of P25.61 in damage to irrigation in Calabarzon.
