THE National Commission of Senior Citizens is seeking the help of local government units (LGUs) in creating a database for over 12.3 million senior citizens.
NCSC Chairman Franklin Quijano, during the Laging Handa public briefing yesterday, said that based on their estimate there are more than at least 12.3 million senior citizens nationwide but they need to update their data to make sure it is accurate.
Quijano said there is at least one senior citizen for every 10 Filipinos in the country and expects the number to rise to two in every 10 persons in the next 15 years.
“We need your help, the commission needs a good database commission and so we are asking all LGUs… all organizations of senior citizens, maybe you could help us complete a wide database which will involve 12.3 million plus senior citizens,” he said in mixed English and Filipino.
Quijano said they need help in locating and registering of senior citizens and eventually the creation of a database for elders to easily identify them, find them and ensure that appropriate services are provided to them.
