WITH the wage review underway, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) yesterday vowed to be more vigilant over the latest socioeconomic developments in Metro Manila.
In a statement, the NCR wage board said its review of the prevailing minimum wage rate in Metro Manila will not be limited to public consultations and hearings.
“The Board ensures that it will be more vigilant in monitoring the socioeconomic conditions in the region, and will study carefully the potential impact of any wage adjustment on businesses and workers,” said the RTWPB-NCR.
It assured that it would not take away the mandatory conduct of wage consultation on June 4 and the public hearing on June 20.
“This will ensure all sectors stand to be directly affected are given the widest opportunity to be heard and raise their respective concerns before the Board conducts its wage deliberation to determine the need and propriety of adjusting the minimum wage in NCR,” said the RTWPB-NCR.
“All inputs gathered during consultations and public hearings will be deliberated and feasible measures will be exhausted to capture relevant and economically feasible criteria to maintain the balance and safeguard the interest of both labor and management,” it added.
Last Thursday, the NCR wage board held its first wage consultation at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) in Quezon City.
More than 100 representatives from various labor groups actively participated in the event.
Regional wage boards may officially begin their wage review process within 60 days from the anniversary date of the most recent wage order for any region.
Wage Order No. NCR-24 is set to have its anniversary on July 16, 2024.
