A MARINE general has been designated commander of the Joint Task Force National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) which is in charge of all military operations in Metro Manila.
Brig. Gen. Eric Macaamba assumed the post on Wednesday during rites, presided over by AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr, at Camp Aguinaldo.
The JTF-NCR, previously known NCR Command and NCR Defense Command, has played a key role in quelling attempts to overthrow the government. It is engaged in efforts to contain communist threat in Metro Manila and has been supporting the PNP in maintaining peace and order in the metropolis.
Macaamba headed the 1st Marine Brigade and the Naval Task Group Central in Western Mindanao prior to his designation as JTF-NCR commander.
Macaamba succeeded Maj. Gen. Jimmy Larida, also from the Philippine Marines, who assumed the post of AFP deputy chief of staff for operations last May 21.
Macaamba, a holder of a master’s degree in government management at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1992. Larida is from the PMA Class 1991.
“I challenge you to embrace the changes that lie ahead, to serve and strengthen our readiness to face any challenge that may arise,” Brawner told Macaamba.
“We will also improve your (JTF-NCR) capabilities so that you will be able to defend the whole National Capital Region,” he added.
Brawner commended Larida for his dedicated service and significant contributions as JTF-NCR commander.
