FOR the first time in nearly two months, the average number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has dropped to less than 3,000, according to the independent OCTA Research group.

In a social media post, OCTA fellow Guido David said the epicenter of the pandemic in the Philippines saw a seven-day average cases of 2,942 for the period of September 28 to October 4. The figure was at 4,083 cases per day from a week earlier.

He said the last time the seven-day average was less than 3,000 was back in August 10.

With the dip, David said the one-week growth rate in Metro Manila is now at negative 27 percent.

David also said that the reproduction rate in Metro Manila has gone down to 0.76, which is lower than the NCR reproduction rate from the previous week of 0.94.
