THE NCAA will not fold up in the face of an unseen but vicious enemy.
Speaking yesterday in the online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum, 96th season Management Committee chairman Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, of host Letran said the league will proceed with its new season on June 13 with online events.
“We’re taking a leap of faith. Hindi namin alam paano itatawid, ano ang gagawin, ‘di ba?
Pero as time goes by, just like people who have faith… with the safety of the players, fans, and all the stakeholders, kaya nating itawid itong season 96,” Calvo said.
“Hindi tayo magpapatalo sa pandemic,” he added.
The opening of the new season of the country’s oldest collegiate league will be held mostly online, he added.
“Hybrid (opening). There’s a combination of online and for us of course na vaccinated na, nandoon sa appearance sa opening. The Policy Board led by Fr. Clarence Marquez, OP, will be there, Sir Peter (Cayco) of course and the majority of the ManCom members and the performers from the NCAA schools and GMA 7,” Calvo said.
“Very strict ang protocols sa GMA. Tumangos na ata ang ilong ko sa kaka-swab. May protocols silang sinusunod just to be relevant na matutuloy iyong aming opening.”
Management Committee member Peter Cayco of Arellano University, who joined Calvo in the public sports program presented by San Miguel Corp., Go For Gold, Milo, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., and powered by Smart and Upstream Media as official webcast partner, said the league is awaiting the green light from the government agencies to hold the skills challenge events.
