OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation rescued four victims and arrested two Chinese for violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act recently.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the operation last October 16 in Greenwoods Executive Village in Taytay, Rizal led to the apprehension of Wang Kun and Liu Xiao Xiao.
The arrest stemmed from a complaint received by the agency last October 7 from a certain Jinwen Yang alleging that his friend, Siaw Ping Lim, a Malaysian, was being held against her will by her Chinese employer Ma Shang Lai.
Santiago said Ma operates an online scamming enterprise in a residential house in Greenwoods Village.
Santiago said the complaint alleged there were other call center employees, all foreigners, also being held against their will.
“They are all housed in the residential building and are not allowed to go out of the premises. The employer refuses to give back her (Lim) passport, thus deterring her plans to leave or escape from her employer’s place,” the NBI chief said.
Acting on the information, the NBI conducted a series of surveillance operations at the place where Ma holds office.
The rescue operation took place before midnight last October 16.
“In sum, four individuals were rescued while two Chinese were arrested,” Santiago added.
However, Ma was not present during the operation and remains at large.
Charges of violation of Section 4 of Republic Act No.9208 (Anti Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003) were filed against the two arrested Chinese and their cohorts identified as Lin Dong Bai, Li Tan and Gan Lin Long before the Taytay Prosecutors Office.
