OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation-Special Action Unit have arrested a man posing as an official of the Supreme Court on Facebook and using his purported government connections to make money.

The NBI-SAU said Mark Jasper Reyes, who also goes by the name Mark Gil Cloma De Guzman, was apprehended in an entrapment operation in Paranaque last August 20 based on the complaints filed by lawyer Jed Sherwin Uy, Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Technology Officer of the SC, and businesswoman Christine Chung Dela Rosa. Uy also heads the Management Information Systems Office of the SC.

Investigation conducted by the NBI showed that Reyes misrepresented himself as Uy when he contacted Dela Rosa through her Facebook account.

Dela Rosa said Reyes discussed issues concerning a decision of the Court of Appeals in a case involving her late father and bragged about his government connections.

Dela Rosa, the president and chief executive officer of Dela Rosa Construction and Development Corp., said Reyes offered to help facilitate accreditation for her firm in exchange for P450,000.

Without Reyes’ knowledge, Dela Rosa contacted Uy’s office and was able to confirm that Reyes was masquerading as the SC official to perpetrate his scam.
