TWO more suspects in last month’s killing of Cebu City-based lawyer Joey Luis Wee were identified by the National Bureau of Investigation yesterday following the arrest in Laguna of the principal suspect in the murder case.
NBI office in charge Eric Distor said John Raymond Cabantao alias Randy and Benito Palparan are now the subject of manhunt operation. Distor said the two, along with several John Does, will also be charged in connection with the case.
Last December 8, the NBI nabbed the principal suspect in the case, identified as Fausto Edgar Benigno Peralta, in an apartment in Cabuyao, Laguna.
Distor said Peralta was positively identified by the victim’s wife in a police line-up as well as several other witnesses and close circuit television footage in the crime scene.
Wee was shot dead last November 23 while walking to his office in Kasambangan, Cebu City. He was rushed by his wife and his law firm associates to the hospital but later succumbed to two gunshot wounds.
Peralta had been charged with murder before the local prosecutors office.
The killing took place a week after a lawyer in Palawan, Eric Jay Magcamit, was also shot dead while on the way to court hearing.
The killing of Magcamit and Wee brought to 54 the number of lawyers, prosecutors and judges killed in the country under the Duterte administration.
