WHILE the government is set to conduct simultaneous job fairs on Labor Day, labor organizations will be equally visible in several parts of the country, holding rallies to push for their demands to the Marcos administration.
In a statement, the Partido Manggagawa (PM) said there will be multiple sites for the Labor Day rallies of workers aside from the City of Manila.
“On Labor Day, labor groups will be rallying together despite electoral divides, prioritizing workers’ demands over partisan loyalties,” said PM.
“PM urges workers in key cities nationwide to join the Labor Day mobilizations,” it added.
In Manila, groups comprising the National Wage Coalition will assemble along various points in España, then march to Mendiola for a joint program.
In Cebu City, various labor groups will converge at Fuente Osmeña at 9 a.m. for a joint program.
Sugar farm workers, meanwhile, will lead the rally in Bacolod City.
The coalition United Labor will assemble in the morning in front of UP Visayas in Iloilo City, then march to the Provincial Capitol for a joint program.
In Iligan City, different labor unions will hold a rally in the morning at the plaza with the local tripartite industrial peace council.
PM said the calls of the labor sector will have similarities.
“Workers demand a legislated wage increase, and reject the regional wage board system that keeps provincial rates pitifully low,” said PM.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to hold simultaneous job fairs in 69 sites nationwide with 216,144 job opportunities up for grabs.
