AMID the highest unemployment rate since June 2022, the Sentro ng Mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) yesterday called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to revamp his administration’s economic team.

In a statement, SENTRO said Marcos should consider changing officials in his economic team, adding they have been proven to be failures.

“President Marcos Jr. has shown his willingness to shame officials involved in corruption. Why stop there? He should be equally ready and willing to shame his economic managers,” said SENTRO.

“SENTRO demands that the Marcos Jr. administration revamp its economic team… Enough with recycled economic managers who have failed our people time and again. It’s time to clean house,” it added.

The workers said the results of the July 2025 Labor Force Survey (LFS) clearly indicate the prevailing situation of the Philippine economy, especially the employment sector.

“The recent Labor Force Survey tears apart the government’s propaganda on job creation. The truth is out: millions of Filipinos remain stuck in insecure, low-quality, and low-paying work,” said SENTRO.

Maintaining the status quo, the labor group said, would lead to more Filipinos becoming jobless and poorer.

“By keeping people trapped in unsustainable jobs with unlivable wages, or with no jobs and no pay at all, they are condemning millions of Filipinos to poverty,” said SENTRO.

Based on the latest LFS, the country’s unemployment rate climbed to 5.3 percent in July 2025, from 4.1 percent in April 2025 and 4.7 percent in July 2024.

In absolute terms, the number of jobless Filipinos rose to 2.59 million in July 2025, which is higher compared to 2.06 million in April 2025 and 2.38 million in July 2024.
