POLICE operatives arrested the Vietnamese owner and 11 Filipino staff members of a beauty clinic allegedly involved in illegal aesthetic procedures in Cebu City on Saturday, it was reported yesterday.
The suspects are facing charges for violations of Republic Act 2382 or the Medical Act of 1959, and Republic Act 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.
The Central Visayas police regional office said the suspects were nabbed in an entrapment operation at Adora Beauty Clinic, located at Centro Maximo Building, along Jakosalem St., Barangay Cogon Central Ramos.
In a statement, it said the operation was conducted based on the complaint of a concerned civilian who reported that the clinic was conducting unlicensed beauty enhancement procedures that were ineffective and was using undisclosed product brands.
“In response, a police asset posed as a client and requested a lip filler treatment, which was allegedly administered by a staff member who is neither a licensed physician nor nurse, prompting the operating team to move in and arrest those involved,” it said.
Police said the Vietnamese was the owner of the clinic, based on information provided by the staff members. However, the foreigner is said to be using a Filipino as a front.
Seized from the suspects were two syringes containing lip filler substances, assorted vials, ampules, tablets, capsules, syringes, a radio frequency intensity machine, and a Darme Shine Pro machine.
“The clinic was also unable to present any FDA accreditation required for offering medical cosmetic services,” the Central Visayas police regional office also said.
Central Visayas police director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan commended the personnel for their “swift and coordinated action,” that led to the arrest of the suspects.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to respond to public complaints and verified information,” said Maranan.
