PASIG City Mayor Vico Sotto yesterday said that he won’t run for any position in the 2028 election.
“I will not run in 2028. This early, I am already telling you. That is why I am free to do what I think is right,” Sotto said during the turnover ceremony for his third and final term.
Sotto said that his enemies can’t claim that this is a political move and that he refrained from mentioning it during the election period.
He offered an olive branch to his rivals, whom he did not identify directly and asked them to cooperate in making Pasig a better city, but added that they need to pay for their crimes.
“To all my opponents, we extend a hand of unity. If possible, let us work together for the good of our city. But those who committed crimes must be made accountable,” he said.
The mayor alleged that his rivals have billions of unpaid taxes to the local and national government that they have yet to settle.
“You have to pay the billions of taxes that you owe the local government as well as the national government,” Sotto said.
He won against Sarah Discaya in the 2025 election.
