THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the United States (US) have yet to feel the effects of the feared mass deportation of illegal immigrants.

In a media forum, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac bared that OFWs have remained unaffected by the crackdown pushed by US President Donald Trump.

“As of now, we Filipinos have yet to feel the so-called mass deportation in the US,” said Cacdac.

He cited the good relationship between the Philippines and the US as one of the possible reasons.

“We have a good diplomatic relation, of course, with the United States,” said the DMW chief.

Despite this, the department assured that the government is prepared if OFWs are deported from the US.

“We stand ready… We have been preparing for such an eventuality,” said Cacdac.

Since returning as US president, Trump has vowed to deport millions of illegal immigrants.

Records show that there are an estimated 350,000 Filipinos, including OFWs, illegally staying in the US.
