A forwarding company surrendered to the police unclaimed parcels containing over P6 million worth of marijuana in Las Pinas city on Tuesday, January 7.

Southern Police District Director Brig. Gen.  Manuel Abrugena said employees of the forwarding company based in Brgy. Pamplona Tres, Las Pinas provided information to the police on the five large unclaimed balikbayan boxes.

The information led the SPD to deploy personnel from its intelligence division, drug enforcement and forensic unit and Las Pinas police to recover the unclaimed balikbayan boxes.

“Upon investigating the scene, we found five large balikbayan boxes containing 51 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops, hidden among other packages,” Abrugena said, adding it has an estimated street value of around P6.1 million pesos.

Abrugena however did not provide additional details such as the sender and consignee of the boxes due to security considerations.

“Investigation into the unclaimed parcels is already underway to determine where the parcels came from and where they are headed,” he said.

“We cannot emphasize more the importance of discovering these parcels before they reach the market, preventing them from being sold and avoiding the potential harmful effects of illegal drugs on users,” he added.
