THE Legal Education Board (LEB) has ordered the closure of the University of Manila College of Law for its failure to meet the minimum standards set by the board.

“Notice is hereby given that the Legal Education Board has ordered the closure of the University of Manila College of Law, effective Academic Year 2024-2025, pursuant to LEB Resolution No. 217-14. This decision was made after a thorough evaluation of the legal education institution’s compliance with legal education standards and regulatory requirements,” the LEB said in an advisory yesterday.

It said that the University of Manila College of Law has been notified about the closure order since June 5, 2024. However, the LEB said it has received information the school continues to accept enrollees, prompting it to issue the advisory.

“Hence, this Notice is issued to warn the public that the Legal Education Board does not recognize enrolment in the said school,” it added.

The closure order, it added, was due to the college’ dismal performance in the Bar examinations and failure to meet the prescribed curriculum and academic standards for legal education.

It also said that it found deficiencies in institutional facilities and resources necessary for quality legal instruction.

The LEB is an independent government agency created under Republic Act 7662, otherwise known as the Legal Education Reform Act of 1993, to regulate and ensure the quality of legal education in the country.
