A low-pressure area (LPA) intensified into a tropical depression around 8 p.m. after exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
It was not given a local name because it became a tropical depression when it was outside the PAR.
In an online forum on Wednesday, Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia said the tropical depression was some 610 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Dela Cruz-Galicia said the tropical depression is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It is moving northwestward at 15 kph, added Dela Cruz-Galicia.
“At present, it is not affecting any part of the country,” said Dela Cruz-Galicia of the tropical depression.
“Based on our forecast and latest analysis, this tropical cyclone outside the PAR is heading towards southern China,” she added.
Dela Cruz-Galicia disclosed that an LPA may develop in the northeastern part of Luzon in the coming days. This may bring rains in the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao region.
