Thousands of protesters have gathered at the People Power Monument on EDSA for a major demonstration against government corruption, with attendance expected to peak Sunday afternoon.

A police officer on site estimated the crowd at between 3,000 to 5,000 people as of 11 a.m., with numbers continuing to grow.

The figure increased from an earlier estimate of 3,000 provided by PNP Highway Patrol Group director PCol. Hansel Marantan.

The protest, organized in part by Tindig Pilipinas, began with a mass near the monument at 10:30 a.m.

By 11:30 a.m., large groups of people many wearing white shirts could still be seen walking along White Plains Avenue toward the rally site.

The demonstration is part of a nationwide day of action demanding accountability and transparency in government.
