Teves on painkillers, intubated after appendectomy

DETAINED former congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. is taking powerful painkillers after reporting pain due to post-operation complications, his lawyer said yesterday.

Atty. Ferdinand Topacio said Teves reported pain as high as “10/10” on the pain scale.

To recall, Teves was brought to the Philippine General Hospital due to severe stomach pains.

Teves is detained at a Bureau of Jail Management Penology-operated detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City.

Citing his client’s doctors, Topacio said Teves reported the maximum level of pain yesterday.

“He is currently under around-the-clock observation to manage his condition and prevent further complications,” Topacio said, adding the former lawmaker remains unable to eat and drink orally, being nourished by intubation.

Topacio said no discharge date has been issued by doctors attending to Teves, who underwent an appendectomy at the PGH last Wednesday.

Teves is facing multiple murder charges before a Manila court over the 2023 attack that killed Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and nine others.

He is also facing another murder case before a court in Bayawan, Negros Oriental and for violation of the terrorism financing and prevention act before a court in Quezon City.
