FORMER lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr has been cleared by the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for return to his detention cell, the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology (BJMP) said yesterday.
Teves was brought to the PGH from his cell at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City on June 18 to undergo an emergency appendectomy.
Teves, expelled as Negros Oriental representative, is facing multiple murder charges for the killing provincial governor Roel Degamo and nine others in March 2023 and violation of the terrorism financing and prevention act, among others.
BJMP spokesman Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said the clearance issued by PGH showed
Teves is already “okay.” thus the hospital gave the green light for his return to his detention cell.
He said the transfer was set yesterday but as of 4:30 p.m. yesterday, Teves was still in the hospital.
Teves’ lawyer Ferdinand Topacio on Monday said his client might be discharged from the hospital Monday or Tuesday but might “not be fit enough to attend the hearing personally.”
This was after the Manila regional trial court granted his motion to reset the arraignment for one of his murder cases.
