POLICE operatives arrested a Taiwanese and his Filipino cohort Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping a Chinese four days earlier, the PNP said.
The 27-year-old Taiwanese and 24-year-old Filipino were arrested in separate operations in Las Piñas City and Pasay City, the PNP said in a statement last Wednesday night.
“The rescue operation successfully secured the safety of the victim, who was earlier reported to have been missing under suspicious circumstances,” the PNP said.
The 41-year-old Chinese was reported missing on April 18, police said.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said a swift and coordinated response from the Manila Police District, and Pasay City and Parañaque City police stations led to the arrest of the suspects and the rescue of the victim.
While commending the policemen involved in the successful operation, Marbil said: “We will never allow acts of kidnapping and illegal detention to go unpunished.
“Whether the victims are Filipinos or foreign nationals, the PNP will take swift, decisive action to uphold the law and protect the lives and rights of every individual in this country,” added Marbil.
In a press briefing at Camp Crame yesterday, PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Randulf Tuaño said investigators are looking into a possible “kidnap me” angle.
Tuaño said the female victim called a certain Ms. Lee to produce P500,000 in ransom during her supposed captivity.
He said it was the kidnappers who usually make the ransom demand.
uaño said there was no commotion when the victim was supposedly seized by her captors, adding the victim did not even have any bruises or injuries when she was rescued.
“It appears it’s a kidnap me case. They (investigators) are investigating this but as of now, we already filed charges against the two,” said Tuaño, referring to the Taiwanese and the Filipino.
