A LOCAL radio broadcaster was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bislig City in Surigao del Sur yesterday morning, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) said.
PTFOMS executive director Jose Torres Jr. said the task force’s Special Investigation Task Group on New Cases has been activated to help look into the killing of 63-year-old Erwin Labitad Segovia, host of WOW FM’s radio program “Diritsahan!,” which covers social issues, local governance, and community concerns in Surigao province.
Segovia was shot dead by two unidentified individuals in Barangay Mangagoy, Bislig City yesterday morning.
Torres said the PTFOMS is coordinating with the Philippine National Police Media Vanguards and the Media-Citizen Council in Region XIII to expedite the investigation being conducted by the police, which have also launched hot pursuit operations to apprehend the suspects.
He asked the public and the media community to remain vigilant and to share any information that can aid in the investigation.
