VICE President Sara Duterte yesterday urged the public to support the Department of Health’s (DOH) campaign against the deadly dengue fever because June is Dengue Awareness Month.
“It’s important that we support the Department of Health’s campaign against dengue. The illness brought by dengue mosquitoes that could be nesting in our homes and communities is deadly,” she said in a statement.
“We are all in danger of being infected by this disease. Let’s unite in the advocacy to control the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes,” Duterte added.
The Vice President reminded the public to take measures to stop dengue such as removing stagnant water at home and in communities to deprive mosquitoes of breeding grounds and also using insect sprays.
“And in our communities, join clean-up drives. Action against dengue is protection for every member of our family,” she said.
The Department of Health (DOH) late last April reported a 23 percent drop in the number of dengue cases in the country after the surge seen in the early part of the year.
In a social media post, the DOH attributed the decrease to its intensified drive to remove mosquito-breeding sites, referring to the “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign.
It said 12,050 cases were recorded from March 2 to 15, down to 9,289 during the period of March 16 to 29.
