Super typhoon “Nando” made landfall in Cagayan province on Monday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said, marking a critical turn for the powerful storm as it began battering northern Luzon.
PAGASA said “Nando” slammed into Panuitan Island, part of Calayan municipality in Cagayan province, around 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
In a bulletin issued at 2 p.m., PAGASA said “Nando” is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning.
“Nando”, the Philippines’ 14th tropical cyclone this year, has intensified with sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 295 km/h, moving westward at 25 kph.
