THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday said batches of a brand of spices have been voluntarily recalled due to the possible presence of small pieces of plastic.

It identified the products as “Cape Herb and Spice Salt and Pepper 310g,” “Cape Herb and Spice Seasoned Salt 240g,” and “Cape Herb and Spice Sweet and Cape Herb and Spice Sweet & Smoky BBQ 240g.”

In an advisory, the FDA said the recall was ordered by Cape Herb and Spice Ltd., and its market authorization holder, PHDELI Corporation after the firms “received a notification from their supplier Cape Herb and Spice Ltd., South Africa, stating that there is a manufacturing defect in specific lot codes of grinders, which has resulted in small pieces of plastic grinder mechanism breaking off.”

Covered by the product recall are lot codes BS530297, BS549771, and S550456 of Cape Herb and Spice Salt and Pepper 310g; BS532513, and BS532516 of Cape Herb and Spice Seasoned Salt 240g; and BS531652, and BS532497 of Cape Herb and Spice Sweet & Smoky BBQ 240g.

“This recall applies only to the abovementioned lot codes, and no other Cape Herb and Spice products are affected by this recall,” the FDA said.

It advised those who purchased the products to contact PHDELI Corporation through sales@phdelicorp.com or call 8553 5855.

“To this date, PHDELI has not received any consumer complaints of the said products,” said the FDA.
