SENATE President Vicente Sotto III on Wednesday approved the motion to move the detention of dismissed public works engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez to the Pasay City Jail from the police headquarters in Camp Crame.

Members of the Senate minority bloc had questioned Sotto’s decision to let Hernandez be detained at Camp Crame’s PNP Custodial Center.

Hernandez, who has been fired by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vivencio Dizon amid the flood-control projects scandal, was cited in contempt on Monday by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee for “apparently lying” while being questioned by senators in relation to questionable DPWH flood-control projects.

He was then ordered detained at the Senate detention facility.

After his appearance as a resource person at the House Infrastructure Committee’s hearing on Tuesday, members of the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSSA) brought Hernandez to the PNP Custodial Center instead of bringing him back to the Senate.

Hernandez has asked the House joint panel to secure him in relation to his testimony, in which he alleged that senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva have received 30 percent kickbacks from flood-control projects in Bulacan, of which they served as proponents.

Estrada and Villanueva have both denied Hernandez’s allegations.
