SINGAPORE Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will make an official visit to the Philippines from June 4 to 5, which will be highlighted by a bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacanang.
The Singaporean leader marks his first bilateral trip since his reappointment in May this year. Wong is undertaking the trip — his introductory visit to the Philippines — on the invitation of the President.
The coming visit marks the first by a Singaporean prime minister to the Philippines since 2017, underscoring the significance of this renewed high-level engagement.
During the visit, the President and the Prime Minister are scheduled to have a bilateral meeting where they are expected to discuss the growing ties between the Philippines and Singapore in key areas of health, climate change mitigation and civil service cooperation, among others.
The two leaders will also discuss political and economic issues of significance to the region.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Wong’s visit reflects the warm and enduring ties between the two countries and reaffirms the strong and longstanding partnership between Singapore and the Philippines.
Singapore is the country’s eighth-largest trading partner in 2024 and is currently home to an estimated 220,000 Filipinos.
The last time a Singaporean prime minister visited the Philippines was in April 2017 when Singapore president Tharman Shanmugaratnam and his spouse, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam, embarked on a three-day state visit to the Philippines.
