THE Supreme Court has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Leiden Law School in the Netherlands for a 10-day training course on judicial management and administration of complex cases.
The MOU was signed last October 30 between the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA) and the Grotius Center for International Legal Studies of the Dutch university.
PHILJA, the training arm of the SC, is headed by retired SC Associate Justice Rosmari Carandang.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo said the MOU is aimed at developing the skills of court personnel in the field of judicial management and administration.
He added this is also in line with the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027 of the SC, which seeks, among others, to further improve the skills and knowledge of personnel in the judiciary to speed up the administration of justice.
“The journey towards justice is multi-dimensional, and while the judiciary’s primary duty lies in adjudication, the administrative framework that supports our courts plays an equally vital role in ensuring the effective and expeditious resolution of cases,” Gesmundo said.
Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh said it is also part of the High Court’s restructuring and reorganization of its adjudicative and administrative systems and processes “to make them more efficient and responsive, transparent and accountable.”
The training course for 25 select participants from the judiciary will be held from November 25 to December 6 at The Hague, Netherlands.
Training participants will also visit national and international courts and tribunals in The Hague to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the justice system.
