SAN Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora yesterday said the Department of the Interior and Local Government has declared the city as drug-clear, the first to be declared this year.
Zamora said that DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla personally commended San Juan for being drug-clear.
Zamora said this was made possible by his coordination with the local government, Barangay officials and ordinary citizens.
The mayor explained that there is a difference between being declared drug-clear and drug-free.
“Being declared drug-free means that all drug suspects in the city were arrested and suspects/victims finished their rehabilitation programs. Drug-free, on the other hand, means that there are zero cases of illegal drug activity in the area,” he said.
Police seized P144,840 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested three persons in a buy-bust operation in Pasig City last Monday night.
Col. Hendrix Mangaldan, local police chief, identified the suspects as alias Arwin, 4, ranked No. 5 in the Regional High-Value Individual (HVI) drug list; Julio, 34, No. 9 in the same HVI list; and alias Karlo, 37, residents of Urbano Avenue, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City. Seized from them were four sachets containing more or less 21.30 grams of suspected shabu.
