THE local recruitment sector yesterday expressed support to efforts of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to ensure better housing facilities for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) awaiting deployment and undergoing skills training.
The Coalition of Licensed Agencies Deploying Services (CLADS) said in a statement that they fully support the new rules provided by the private recruitment agencies (PRAs) for the accreditation of housing facilities.
They reiterated this during their recent general meeting attended by more than 200 member agencies.
In addition, the recruitment sector also lauded the ongoing inspection of the accommodation facilities by the DMW.
“All private recruitment agencies deploying household service workers must provide OFWs with adequate provisions, such as living quarters, beds, blankets, drinking water, toilet facilities, personal hygiene, internet, ventilation, and other amenities to ensure their decent living conditions,” said CLADS.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac earlier said the DMW will inspect housing facilities being provided by the recruitment sector after Sen. Raffy Tulfo criticized the conditions of accommodation houses used by OFWs.
Tulfo has said that OFWs due for deployment are forced to occupy crammed sleeping quarters with shabby comfort rooms, and lodgings that have no fire exits.
