THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said it is working to develop real-time email and short messaging notifications for motorists caught violating traffic rules through the No Contact Apprehension Program.
MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group Director Victor Nunez III said they are working with the Land Transportation Office and telecommunication companies to develop the EMS notification.
“This is also in partnership with the LTO, we are working with the LTO because kapag nagre-renew kayo ng rehistro, you will be required to put your email and contact number para mas madali ‘yung notification sa mga nag-violate ng NCAP,” (This is also in partnership with the LTO; we are working with the LTO because if you want to renew your car registration, you will be required to put your email and contact number so that notification for NCAP violators will be easier),” Nunez told the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon forum.
Nunez said the system they are developing would be able to send SMS and email alerts, along with online access to the details of the violation committed.
Last Monday, the agency launched the “May Huli Ka” website that will allow motorists to know if they violated the NCAP.
Nunez said they are already working to develop a May Huli Ka app so that motorists can have access to a more compact option.
“The app will be made available within two months,” he said.
Last week, the MMDA said it had started sending notices of violation to traffic violators under the NCAP.
MMDA chief Romando Artes said the notices were sent after “a thorough review” of the violations caught on closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) as part of NCAP.
Earlier, the MMDA reassured motorists that it is carefully reviewing all apprehensions made since it resumed enforcing the NCAP last month on EDSA and other major roadways in the metropolis after the Supreme Court partially lifted its injunction on the policy last month.
The NCAP utilizes CCTVs and digital cameras to identify and apprehend traffic violators through videos and images captured of their violation.
Once a violation is detected, the MMDA issues traffic citation tickets and mails them directly to the vehicle’s registered owners.
