THE Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Doha yesterday warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against acts considered indecent and immoral in Qatar.

In a social media post, the MWO-Doha said: “Just a reminder that anyone who commits an indecent act, dares to speak immoral objects, or performs indecent activity in a public place, can be imposed imprisonment of not more than six months and/or a fine of not more than three thousand Qatari Riyals (QR 3,000).”

It noted that men wearing women’s clothing and vice versa can be considered a violation of “public morality” or “public order,” especially if it is seen as a violation of traditional gender standards.

The MWO also said a man who uses thick and obvious cosmetics that make him look feminine can also be construed as violating domestic laws.

The MWO said the advisory is being issued after it received reports of individuals being arrested, detained, and deported for violating Qatar’s law on “Immoral and Disgraceful Actions,” particularly after it was done in public places or displayed on social media.

Data shows there are around 240,000 OFWs in Qatar.
