THE Department of Education yesterday cautioned the public against fake news on social media claiming that one more year has been added to the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum.
Dennis Legaspi, chief of the Media Relations Office of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, said there is no truth to that post.
“It’s fake news,” Legaspi told reporters when asked for comment on the issue.
In a statement, the DepEd also denied the claim.
“Fake news ang kumakalat na Facebook post tungkol sa umano’y dagdag na Grade 13 sa Senior High School para sa SY 2025-2026 (The post circulating on Facebook claiming that there is a Grade 13 in Senior High School for School Year 2025-2026 is fake news),” the DepEd said.
“Muling pinaaalalahanan ng DepEd ang publiko na mag-ingat at maging mapanuri laban sa misinformation (The DepEd warns the public to beware and be careful in dealing with misinformation),” it added.
The department urged the public to visit its official social media accounts for any announcements or information on basic education.
The current curriculum has only two years for senior high school, Grades 11 and 12.
Earlier, the DepEd said it will pilot test a strengthened SHS Program in 727 schools this coming school year.
The revised program, according to DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, will have fewer lessons and learning tracks.
Under the pilot rollout, the DepEd said the core subjects will be trimmed down to five proposed core subjects — effective communication, life skills, general mathematics, general science, and pag-aaral ng kasaysayan at lipunang pilipino — from the current 15.Public warned: Addition of 1 year
