EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara yesterday urged the public to participate in the online consultation on the revised senior high school (SHS) curriculum until April 11.
The online consultation, which started last April 4, is important since the revised SHS curriculum will be pilot tested in some schools in the school year 2025-2026.
“The consultations are open to the general public, including teachers, learners, parents, and industry representatives,” Angara said.
“The feedback from the online consultations will be reviewed and integrated into the final SHS curriculum framework,” he added.
Angara said 2,000 participants across 14 regions in the country shared insights on the proposed features of the SHS program in an earlier consultation held from January to February this year.
The revised SHS curriculum has been undergoing reviews for several years now as part of the DepEd’s effort to make it more responsive to the needs of graduates and address the job mismatch in the country.
The initial results of the pilot testing will guide the DepEd on whether all senior high schools in the country will implement the revised curriculum by the school year 2026-2027.
Earlier, Angara said senior high school students will have to undergo more hours of on-the-job training and apprenticeship as part of efforts to further hone their skills and increase their chances of being employed.
He said this was the request of the DepEd’s industry partners.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed Angara to prioritize improving the employability of senior high school graduates.
The DepEd had initiated the revision of the K to 10 curriculum in 2023 during the time of Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte.
The revised K to 10 curriculum, also known as the Matatag curriculum, was Duterte’s main program during her two-year stint as DepEd chief.
It includes the “decongestion” of the curriculum to improve the quality of basic education in the country.
