PRIVATE schools have the option to start the school year 2025-2026 on June 16, the opening of classes in public schools, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
Dennis Legaspi, Chief of the Media Relations Office of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, said, “Private schools may adopt DepEd’s school calendar. They may also set their own start of classes, provided they comply with the School Calendar Law, which states that the school year shall start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.” beat Under the law, the school year shall consist of not more than 220 class days.
Last week, the DepEd announced that school year 2025-2026 will begin on June 16, 2025 for public schools and end on March 31, 2026, for a total of 197 school days.
The DepEd noted, however, that this number may change based on unforeseen events and future directives.
The coming school year marks the return to the pre-pandemic school calendar with classes opening in June and ending in March.
