A resident of Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City, complained that a portion of her ballot in yesterday’s polls was pre-shaded, a claim denied by the local Board of Election Inspectors.
Elisa Repas told reporters covering the voting in a precinct in Guadalupe Nuevo that she noticed that another party-list, whom she did not name, had been shaded in her ballot after she had shaded her preferred party-list organization.
“Nakita ko may shade ‘yung isang isang party-list. Ngayon nag-complain ako sa desk (I noticed that one of the party-list groups had a shaded area. So I complained to the people manning the desk),” Repas said, referring to the personnel composing the BEI who are manning the precinct.
One of the BEI personnel, Maila Te Lim, said they found no marks on Repas’ ballot after checking it.
“So, chine-check ko, front and back. Wala, malinis lahat. Kaya nagtataka ako. Imposible po kasi kaka-open ko lang. Anong oras pa lang ‘yon, wala pang alas sais ng umaga (So, I checked the ballot, front and back. Everything was clean. That is why I am surprised. It is impossible since the precinct has just opened. It was not even six in the morning),” Lim added.
Overall, voting in Makati, according to the Makati police, proceeded smoothly, with no untoward incident or disruption monitored.
Outgoing senator and mayoralty aspirant Nancy Binay cast her vote at the San Antonio Elementary School Sports Complex.
She was accompanied by her parents, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, and former Makati mayor Elenita, husband Pepito, son Benjamin, daughter Anya, siblings Junjun, Anne and JM.
Binay is running against Makati 1st District Rep. Luis Campos, the husband of her younger sister, Abby Binay, who is gunning for a Senate post under the administration party.
Binay said if she wins Makati’s mayoralty race, she is open to a dialogue with the city government of Taguig to once and for all address issues related to the 10 “EMBO” barangays whose jurisdiction was transferred to the latter by virtue of a Supreme Court ruling.
