PNP CHIEF Gen. Nicolas Torre III yesterday said police presence in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM) will be beefed up to ensure peace and order during the region’s first parliamentary elections on October 13.
Torre made the remarks as the 60-day election period for the BARMM polls began yesterday.
“We already have a plan for that,” he said, adding that concerned PNP officials and units have began discussing security preparations for the elections long ago.
“And last week we had a meeting and during the last conference, we agreed to send additional personnel to augment the local police forces who are currently in BARMM,” said Torre even as he failed to say how many additional personnel will be sent to the region.
“We have to yet to determine actually. But it will be minimal because we are optimistic this election be very, very peaceful,” he said.
Torre said checkpoint operations will be intensified across the region to ensure peace.
“We are going to follow whatever they will say because we are one of the components of Comelec when it comes to this (BARMM elections),” he said.
