THE PNP yesterday said it has already recorded seven suspected election-related incidents (ERIs) about the coming May elections and two persons were confirmed dead.

In a press briefing in Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Fajardo said four of these incidents occurred in Western Visayas — two vehicular accidents, one malicious mischief and one oral defamation.

Fajardo said the three other ERIs occurred in the Ilocos region (shooting incident), Cagayan Valley (malicious mischief), and Socssksargen (shooting incident).

Fajardo said the suspected ERIs are undergoing a validation process to determine if they are indeed related to the coming national and local elections.

The election period began last January 12 when the PNP also started implementing the election gun ban. The election period is due to end on June 11.

“We will be expecting official reports from the validation comment to determine whether or not these seven incidents that were recorded in the past few days can be classified as validated election-related incidents,” said Fajardo.

Fajardo said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has issued instructions to “expedite the validation of these cases.

Fajardo said so far, 379 individuals have been arrested for violation of the gun ban.

“Majority of those arrested are civilians, although there are members of uniformed services who were also apprehended. We also have security guards, and appointed government officials,” said Fajardo.

Fajardo said 383 firearms were seized during the implementation of the election gun ban.

“Most of the firearms we have seized were revolvers, followed by pistols, shotguns, and rifles. We have also recovered and confiscated explosives,” said Fajardo.
