THE PNP yesterday said it recorded at least 40 kidnapping incidents, all related to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), since January 2024.

Citing information from the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group, the PNP Public Information Office (PIO) said these incidents were perpetrated by Chinese citizens.

“From January 2024 to February 2025, the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) recorded a total of 40 kidnapping cases, 10 of which involved Chinese nationals as victims, all reportedly abducted by fellow Chinese perpetrators,” the PIO said in a statement.

The PNP said these incidents “highlight the continuing challenges posed by criminal syndicates operating in the aftermath of the POGO shutdown.”

President Marcos Jr. banned all POGOs in July last year, giving them until the end of last year to wind down their operations.

The PNP said it remains vigilant in monitoring and addressing crimes linked to POGOs, including kidnapping.

“Recent investigations have revealed that some criminal incidents, including kidnappings, stem from disputes related to underground gambling and cyber fraud—illegal activities often associated with former POGO operations,” the PNP said.

The PNP also said it is investigating the disappearance of a Chinese who was last seen on February 10 in Taguig City.

The PNP said it is looking into “multiple leads” even as it assured the public that it is exerting all efforts to “establish the facts and ensure justice” in the incident.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information regarding the incident so as not to cause unnecessary alarm.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation and urge everyone to rely on official reports. The PNP is committed to following all leads to uncover the truth,” said Marbil.

The PNP urged anyone who has information about the incident to come forward and assist policemen involved in the investigation.

Marbil assured the public that the PNP remains relentless in the fight against all forms of crimes.

“The PNP will remain relentless in its efforts to curb criminal activities and dismantle networks that pose threats to peace and order. We are fully committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable,” said Marbil.
